Our Flow Instructors
Micah Picou
With years of experience in flow arts, Micah’s specialty is contact staff, though his movement, fitness, and flow experience also extend to a variety of flow props.
Alaina Williams
Searching for different movement styles that were ground-based rather than aerial-based, Alaina found dragon staff (Thanks to fire mom, Chelsea). Alaina loves learning new movement patterns with various props and the meditative-like state some flow arts movements bring. Alaina enjoys working with beginners, teaching dragon staff, and growing our flow program here at Refuge Aerial! She also works with Co-Founder Lily to organize and direct the showcase at the Flow Arts Institute’s FLAME Festival each April.
Chelsea Lenair - Our Flow & Fire Mom
Meet our mom :) the woman who helped bring flow and fire arts to Refuge Aerial. Chelsea Lenair, a fire and flow arts performer from the New Orleans area, has been practicing flow arts since 2013. Her gateway prop was the hula hoop. Since then, she has expanded to training with multiple props.
She has performed at various events across the state, including the Louisiana Renaissance Festival, Top Taco Festival and 13th Gate Haunted House. She is also a member of the Baton Rouge based troupe, The Acadian Circus. Chelsea also works as an advocate for BIPOC representation in the circus and flow arts community. She is also a board member of the Flow Arts Institute. She is most proud of being one of the founding members of the Nola Night Lights, an LED Flow Subkrewe in the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus.
Chelsea makes her way to Refuge a few times a year for various flow and fire workshops - so keep an eye out for opportunities to learn from her!
