Class Level Prerequisites

Classes at Refuge Aerial are organized in four different levels. Each level groups students by skillset and helps ensure our teachers can prepare skills and techniques that will challenge you and keep you engaged! If you still aren’t sure where you might fit, contact us for more direction or to schedule an assessment.

Level 1

  • Must have attended Intro to Aerial or attend personal assessment with a Refuge instructor 

Level 2

  • 5-second bent arm hang, 5-second straight arm hang (no wrap preferred) 

  • Ability to do multiple bent-leg tuck and straddle inversions from the ground, unassisted 

  • Familiar with hip-key

  • French & Russian Climbs 

  • Familiar with pull-overs 

Level 3

  • All previously mentioned skills and…

  • 10-second aerial bent arm hang, 10-second aerial straight arm hang (no wrap)

  • Clean crossback straddle with appropriate form

  • Ability to do multiple tuck and straddle inversions in the air/on bar/in ropes (bent legs and tagging allowed)

  • Aerial windmill hip-key

  • Comfort with standing in hoop and on trapeze

Level 4

  • All previously mentioned skills and…

  • Ability to do multiple clean tuck and straight-leg straddle inversions in the air without using momentum

  • Several clean inversion climbs (swim climb/inside hook climb, etc.)

  • Clean single star drop and front salto drop
